Hello and welcome to Living Supernaturally. We're so glad that you could be here even as we study God's word together. We've been looking at the covenant names of God and today we are looking at the covenant name ‘Jehovah Nissi. Why does God introduce Himself in these names? It is to show the people that He is able first of all to do those things that He's promising and also, He desires His will is to bring this or to perform what He's promising in the lives of people. We look at Exodus chapter 17 and verses 8 onwards that whole passage, verses 8 to 16 talks about how Israel is in a battle or where Amalekites come to fight with Israel. So, Moses tells Joshua, he instructs Joshua to find some people, find some men and go and fight with Amalekites. Now Moses, Aaron and Hur they go up the top of a hill and Moses, as long as he holds up his hand, he sees that Israel is fighting well and they are prevailing over the enemy and the moment his hands become heavy and they come down, well the Amalekites start to prevail. So, they put a stone and they make Moses sit there and they hold up, Aaron on one side and Hur on one side, they hold up and support his hands and at the end, the battle is won by Israel. This is what Moses does, Moses builds an altar and calls on the name of the Lord and he says, the Lord is my banner. So, what does it mean when you say the Lord is my banner? It talks about the Lord being a banner of victory. Now banners were used in battles of times past to inspire, to direct and to help the soldiers, those in the army fight and focus on the conflict; to focus on what they were actually fighting for. So, when we say the Lord is our banner, we're saying the Lord is the one who inspires, directs and causes us to focus as we engage in spiritual conflict. Now we know that we don't fight against flesh and blood but against powers, against principalities and spiritual forces of darkness. So, when we engage in these spiritual battles which could be day-to-day, which could be prolonged, which could be over a season, we are reminded that the Lord is our banner of victory. He is Jehovah Nissi and even today we are reminded of this. Now, I don't know what kind of battles that you might be facing, we don't know what kind of battles that we could be facing in our tomorrows but one thing we are sure of that the Lord is Jehovah Nissi. As He was, so He is even today even as He's promised in His covenant. This is what 2 Corinthians chapter 2 and verse 14 says, ‘now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.’ This is God's will and desire to lead us in a triumphant procession in Christ Jesus, lead us in triumph in Christ and through us diffuse the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. Shall we pray? Father, we thank you that you are Jehovah Nissi, our banner of victory and even today Lord your promise is that even as we are in Christ, that you will lead us in triumph. No matter what situation, no matter what circumstance and no matter how intimidating it could be, you are the same yesterday, today and forever. You are Jehovah Nissi, our banner of victory. So, Lord may we experience victory today in our battles, we thank you, we give you all praise and glory, in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
