Greetings and thank you for giving us this opportunity to come to you and spend a few moments in the word, in prayer. This week, as we just come out of Christmas day and continue in preparation for the new year, we are meditating on the love that God showed and the love that God had for us. The Bible tells us that one of the greatest expressions of God’s love for us is the cross of Jesus Christ. Romans chapter 5, verse 8 tells us that ‘God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.’ 1 John chapter 4, verses 9 and 10 says, ‘In this, the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.’ The Bible is telling us that God loved us so much and it was not just a theoretical love, it was not just a love that said, ‘I love you’ but it was a love that demonstrated that love. It says God demonstrated, He manifested, He so expressed His love by sending Jesus Christ to die for us on the cross. If there is ever a doubt in your heart or in mind that God loves me, the bible is saying, look at the cross. The cross is God’s inexplicable, unquestionable, demonstration, manifestation, a clear statement that He loves you. In other words, He would not have gone to the cross if it was not for love. God loves you so much that He died, He gave His life for you and for me. It is something very hard for us to fathom but we need to pause and think about that, take some time today, think about this that God loved you so much, He died for you, He gave His own life for you, that is how much He loves you and He still does today. Let’s pray, Lord, our minds find it hard to grasp, to understand the love but yet you have demonstrated it for us. Open our minds, open our understanding to get even a simple glimpse, just a little bit of the understanding we need of the magnitude and greatness of your love for us. May we embrace your love, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
