Welcome to Living Supernaturally, the daily devotional of All People’s church. We are so glad that we could be doing this together, reading the word of God, studying it with the intention of practicing and applying it. When we apply the word and when we do that out of a heart of obedience and faith, we experience the power of what that word is, the truth of that word of God in our own lives. Today, we are looking at God’s instructions in the word to be strong. It comes in various places and contexts. Today, we are looking at Joshua chapter 1, verse 9, the context is this that Joshua is faced with a huge responsibility of leading the Israelites. The leader who was Moses is no more and God gives that instruction to Joshua to be strong. We are reading from Joshua chapter 1, verse 9, it goes like this, ‘Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.’ This is the command that God gives Joshua and it is applicable to all of us as well. God gives Joshua this command even as he faces this huge responsibility of this people who have troubled the leaders in the past, they are not an easy bunch to lead. It is not an easy responsibility and there is no other person that he can look up to. Moses was always there; he could always turn to Moses and ask for wisdom and counsel but now Moses has passed on. God is saying, have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage. In fact, when we study the word of God, we see in Deuteronomy, that Moses while instructing Joshua, he uses the same words- Be strong and of good courage. So, the same thing we see here, the Lord is commanding and saying, be strong and of good courage. We have this assurance even as we are commanded. So, this command comes with the assurance of God’s presence. Even as He says, be strong and of good courage, this is the promise. He says, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. The Lord promises His presence. He says, I will be with you wherever you go. So, that is enough reason for you to be strong and courageous. Many a times, when we are at the end of our own abilities, ideas and strength, we feel alone, we feel depleted of strength, weak, run out of ideas and charge and we feel that there is no one else around. But the Lord is saying, the reason I am commanding you Joshua or man and woman of God to be strong and courageous is because I will be with you, I am with you wherever you go. So, that is the assurance that we have, the assurance of His presence, He promises His presence. We know there are varying degrees of the presence of God but the Lord’s presence is so personal, real, tangible and we are to be aware of the presence of God. Daily, day in and out, to be aware of His intimate presence. Let’s pray even as we ponder on this thought, Father, we thank you, that you have commanded us, even as you have commanded Joshua to be strong and of good courage for this promise is that you are with us wherever we go. Whatever challenges/ needs are there that require us to walk in good courage and strength, you don’t leave us alone but are with us wherever we go. We thank you for this assurance, in Jesus’ matchless name we pray, Amen.
