The Open Invitation
by Ps Jeyakumar Isaiah
The Lord Jesus promises His presence and His power to cause a divine exchange as we respond to accept His invitation!
May this sermon minister to you and enrich your walk of faith in Jesus Christ. We welcome you to make use of the free sermons, Christian books, and daily devotionals available on this website.
The Lord Jesus extends a timeless open invitation to all of us to come to Him.

Matthew 11:28-29
28 Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Most of us have demanding work schedules, deadlines, problems to solve/fix all the time and our minds are constantly engaged and in overdrive. We need the rest and refreshing that our Lord promises.

The Lord Jesus invites us to come to Him and assures us that we will find rest for our souls.
So, in other words, every other self-attempt is a poor substitute to access the rest that the Lord promises.

Isaiah 55:1-3
1 “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. 2 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy?
Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance.3 Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David.

This is another passage which is again an invitation from the Lord.
This is especially for ‘everyone who thirsts’

The Lord is not talking about a physical thirst but a much deeper longing.
Are we spending our time, effort on money on what does not nourish nor satisfy in an attempt to satisfy that thirst?

He satisfies our thirst.

Isaiah 44:3
3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;

Matthew 5:6
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

The Lord invites us to come to Him, hear what He says and promises that our soul shall live – not just exist.

As we consider and weigh His invitation, let’s consider the one who is inviting and His reason for doing so:

Isaiah 61:1-3
1 “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,3 To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

John 10:10
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

Luke 9:56
56 For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.

1 John 3:8
8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.

So, without attributing the works of the devil to the works of God, let’s draw near to Him.
He has not invited us to a set of do’s and don’ts
He has not invited us to some precepts and principles
He has invited us to His very presence

1. In His Presence, we are changed

2 Corinthians 3:18
18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

2. In His Presence, there’s conviction of sin

Isaiah 6:5
5 So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”

3. In His Presence, there’s Joy

Psalm 16:11
11 You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

4. In His Presence, our strength is renewed

Isaiah 40:29-31
29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,And the young men shall utterly fall, 31 But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.

5. In His Presence, we are empowered

Mark 3:14
14 Then He appointed twelve, that they might be with Him and that He might send them out to preach,
Acts 4:13
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

Our response to His invitation- Hebrews 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
