Holy Spirit - Partnering With The Spirit
by Ps Ashish Raichur
The Holy Spirit is here for us. He has come to be our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. We must learn to partner with the Holy Spirit in all we do.
May this sermon minister to you and enrich your walk of faith in Jesus Christ. We welcome you to make use of the free sermons, Christian books, and daily devotionals available on this website.

John 14:16-18

16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Gr. Parakletos), that He may abide with you forever—
17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.
18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

John 14:26 But the Helper (Gr. Parakletos), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 15:26 "But when the Helper (Gr. Parakletos) comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.

John 16:7-14
7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Gr. Parakletos) will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.
8 And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;
10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;
11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
12 "I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

In all of these passages where the Lord Jesus is introducing the Person of the Holy Spirit, He conveys to us that the Holy Spirit is here for us, as our Helper.

In John 14:18 the Holy Spirit coming to us, to dwell in us, is the same as the Lord Jesus being with us. He said "I will come to you".

In John 14:26 He said that the Holy Spirit has been sent "in My name". To be sent "in My name" means to be sent "in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf". (Amplified Bible).

The Lord's going away and Him sending the Holy Spirit was for our "advantage" (16:7)

[Side Note on 14:26: The Holy Spirit has been sent "in My name". As believers we have been sent "in My name". Wow! what a combination! Together we have been sent in Jesus name, in His place, to represent Him and to act on His behalf. The Holy Spirit empowers us to go in Jesus place, to represent Jesus and to do what Jesus would do if He were here present.]

Here are some things the Lord Jesus said, the Holy Spirit will do for us:

[Side Note on 16:14: Every time I hear from the Holy Spirit what Jesus is saying, and I do something with it, e.g. believe it, declare it, act on it, I am glorifying Jesus in doing so]

In all of these 4 places where Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit, where the NKJV translates the word as "Helper", the Greek word is "Parakletos". The Amplified Bible, brings out the seven-fold meaning of this Greek word, in all 4 verses. We quote just one of these here:

John 14:16 Amplified Bible (AMP)
16 And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby), that He may remain with you forever—

The Holy Spirit is our Parakletos.

He is our Comforter, Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby.

As we develop communion with the Holy Spirit, we must remember He has come here for us. He has come to partner with us in everything. He is our Senior Partner. We must depend on Him. The Holy Spirit with us, is the same as Jesus being alongside us.

Comforter
He brings encouragement in difficult times.
Learn to receive comfort from the Holy Spirit.

Example: in a time of intense persecution, the believers in Acts 9, experienced the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 9:31
Then the churches throughout all Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and were edified. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, they were multiplied.

Counselor
He provides guidance and advice. Seek His counsel in all your activities, planning and decision-making. Seek His counsel in solving life's problems and handling difficult circumstances.

Helper
He is here to assist us.

Romans 8:26a
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses.

helps = to take hold of together with us against our weaknesses
The apostle Paul has just gone through discussing the weakness of our flesh in Chs. 6-8.

Intercessor
He prays along with us. His intercession is perfectly in line with the will of God.

Romans 8:26-27
26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Advocate
He bears witness or testifies (1 John 5:6-9).
He defends us against the accusations of the enemy.
He fills our hearts with assurance so that we can cry out Abba, Father (Romans 8:15).
When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord raises up a standard against the enemy (Isaiah 59:19).

Strengthener
He empowers us with the power of God.

Ephesians 3:16
that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might (Greek dunamis = power) through His Spirit in the inner man,

Standby
He is alongside us at all times, in everything.

As we learnt last Sunday, we must have communion with the Holy Spirit. Communion with the Holy Spirit is fellowship and partnership.

Learn to be in constant communion with the Holy Spirit. It is through that communion that you learn to partner with Him.

We should always remember that we are united with the Holy Spirit. We are no longer individuals apart from the Holy Spirit. Hence, everything we do must be in partnership with the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who is our Senior Partner. We are only His junior partners. Our responsibility is to listen to our Senior Partner and do what He says.

In all that we do, in all areas of life, let us learn to:
Dream with the Spirit
Do what He tells us to do
Say what He tells us to say
Go where He tells us to go
